Larry Hagman attends the 2010 NKF Transplant Games

Donor recipient Larry Hagman handed out medals to winners in the track and field events on Monday. All of the competitors have either received an organ transplant or are donor families. The Games promote organ, eye and tissue donation and encourage a team spirit amongst transplant recipients and donors.

Larry as usual was wearing his ten-gallon hat and greeted everyone as a friend. He showed up at the Games Expo autographing $10,000 "Hagman bucks" and having his photo taken with recipients, donor families and supporters. And like always would rather bump elbows with everyone than shake hands.

Larry stated that more people need to donate their organs. He received his life saving liver transplant 15 years ago, in 1995. He has attended the transplant games every year since.

When asked how his transplant changed his life; Larry said, "It made me appreciate it a lot more, you don't take life for granted when you've gone through transplantation, and being surrounded by transplantees and the donor families and so forth, it's a wonderful occasion," he said humbly.

This years U.S. National Kidney Foundation Transplant Games are being held in Madison, Wisconsin. They began on July 30 and will run thru Aug. 4, 2010.

For more information, please visit The National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org. And, while visiting their website, if you aren't a registered organ donor already, please read through the process on their website and register today! Donate today, Save a Life Tomorrow!

And in Larry's own words: "I say would you accept a liver or a kidney or heart or lung or pancreas, if you needed one? They say well sure and I say to them well, where do you think they come from? Somebody's gotta donate this thing."

Larry Hagman is the new face of Solar World

Larry Hagman is the new face of a an advertising campaign for SolarWorld, the German company making solar cells in Hillsboro.

With all that oil is gushing away in the gulf, I figured it was time to call for a new direction in where we’re getting our energy,” the actor said in an interview on Monday. “Since Sarah Palin is saying, `Drill, baby, drill,’ I’m saying, ‘Shine, baby, shine.’ It’s a lot cheaper and cleaner.”

Mr. Hagman also serves on the board of the Solar Electric Light Fund, a nonprofit that builds solar systems in poverty-stricken areas of the world.
SolarWorld donated solar panels for the group’s work in Haiti after the earthquake there in January.

On Tuesday the company said it would give an additional 100 kilowatts’ worth of panels to provide electricity for at least five health clinics.

In return, Mr. Hagman made the commercials for SolarWorld, which will run nationally and in regional markets in coming weeks and appear online starting on Tuesday. He is also scheduled to give a speech at the Intersolar conference. (Larry was to appear at the Intersolar Trade Show In San Francisco today.)

“In the past, it was always about the oil,” Mr. Hagman says in a TV commercial that was unveiled today at the Intersolar conference in San Francisco.
“The oil was flowing and so was the money. Too dirty. I quit it years ago,” he growls as he saunters past a portrait of a grinning J. R. in younger days and a TV showing images of an offshore oil rig and blackened waters.
Putting on a 10-gallon hat, he heads outside into the sunshine and gazes at a solar array on the roof of the house. “But I’m still in the energy business,” he says. “There’s always a better alternative.”

SolarWorld did not use an advertising agency to develop the spots. Instead, Mr. Hagman and Milan Nitzschke, SolarWorld’s head of marketing, co-wrote the script, according to Mr. Nitzschke. He said SolarWorld hired a German director, Sönke Wortmann, to shoot the commercials in Nice, France, about a month ago.

“It was quite an unusual way to do it, but I’ve known Larry for about three years and we both had an idea for how to do the commercial,” Mr. Nitzschke said.
